Easter weekend getaway to Cambridge.
Cambridge Uni & Kings College walking tour
Day 1
We arrived in Cambridge in the late afternoon. We headed straight for our hotel which was located in Bar Hill, approximately 15 minutes outside of Cambridge town center.
Once we had settled in and relaxed for a bit we headed out into Cambridge for a bite to eat. We had made a reservation at the famous Parkers Tavern. We enjoyed some food and drinks before listening to some live music for a short time before heading back to the hotel.
Parking in the center is not difficult but there is very little free parking. We found the Queen Anne car park to be free after 6pm so we parked here during the evenings.
Day 2
Our second day was actually the only day we spend in Cambridge doing the sightseeing tourist thing!
We headed out of the hotel early so we had a full day to explore and see exactly what Cambridge has to offer.
Cambridge University is made up of 31 different colleges so during the day we saw many of these whilst walking through the center. The main college (Kings College) is right in the center near to the popular market and close to the great St Mary's Church. We climbed the tower and enjoyed the views of Cambridge from the top.
We walked up and down the canals and enjoyed the gardens whilst watching the punting.
The highlight for us though was spending a couple of hours in the Fitzwilliam museum. It's free to enter and we never expected in a million years the museum to be as interesting as it was. I would recommend this museum to anyone visiting Cambridge. We finished the day off with a few drinks in the boom boom bar in Cambridge enjoying a bottomless brunch with endless cocktails!
Day 3
We'd pretty much seen the what Cambridge had to offer the previous day so we looked for something different to do. We found a local real ale and food event and headed there. It was pretty disappointing and not quite as advertised so we finished our drinks and headed to our next venue. We went to Audley End House & Gardens is a English Heritage site around 25-30 minutes away from Cambridge. This manor is amazing and we spent some time exploring the house.
We headed back into Cambridge to get some food and found a Greek restaurant called the Olive Grove, the food was good, the service was good. It is recommended.
